Hello Friends
I’m so sorry I haven’t been back on my blog for such a long time. It’s my main love out of all the socials and the place I feel the happiest sharing thoughts, feelings and updates of family life (as well as completely silly rambling letters like this one)
However, it has seemed like a lot of effort to open the laptop and get writing (I need to make it more of a habit) and we’ve had a lot going on… so make a hot drink (shameless plug for my best autumn hot drinks blog, perfect all year round really) whilst I catch you up on a few brief bits of the last 6 months.
We’ve had a baby!
Our baby boy Henry Dylan was born in January. He’s just about to turn 6 months and is an absolute bundle of love. I haven’t written my birth story yet but would like to and when I do I’ll link it back here (if you’re reading this from the future). He’s the spitting image of his sister, blonde with big blue eyes and lots of giggles. He’s also a terrible sleeper like his sister, so that’s a journey we’re on at the moment.
We’re about to start weaning again too, the first time was all sorts of fun and games with Charlotte, so it will be great to see how we do it differently this time.
Life as a Family of Four
Adding a new baby to the family has had huge highs and lows. I’ll do a proper post about it soon to try and address some concerns I had in my post about my anxieties when pregnant. It’s fantastic now seeing them play together and the way they are now really bonding, keenly watching each other’s expressions and Charlotte offering up her toys for Henry to play with.
I’m completely one of those parents who just gaze at them sleeping and think it’s incredible. But it doesn’t come with tough moments and feeling like I rarely have a moment to myself.
I’ve started running
I started the ‘Couch to 5k’ programme back in May after I went and bought a double running buggy. It has absolutely changed my world. I have joined a buggy running group on a Monday and now do regular Park Runs on a Saturday. I feel my fitness is improving, I’m losing a bit of timber and feeling great to meet new friends.
I think I have told everyone I know to try a Park Run. It’s such a lovely feeling (if a little sweaty!) and it just seems to set you up for the weekend.
I still love food
My love for food is as strong as ever, but I’ve been trying to do a few healthier swaps to lose weight since having Henry. I’ve also got an air fryer so I’m now one of those people who only talks about babies or air fyers. Again, this is on my list of blogs to write about my favourite recipes as I feel it’s an absolutely essential gadget.
Charlotte is almost 2 and a half
Which just seems absolutely bonkers. She talks non-stop. Particularly this week where she has told us repeatedly that she is a ballerina. This was accompanied by much jumping and spinning (if you remember that John Lewis advert with the Tiny Dancer song, this is our house). I love her with all my heart and am so proud of the person she is becoming.
We all got Covid
Last month we finally got Covid, as did a lot of our close friends. I was really fortunate and only had a few evenings of feeling quite unwell but both the children had it first and Mark really suffered. Thankfully, we are back to full strength and grateful again for not being stuck indoors.
So that’s pretty much where we’re at. Nothing too exciting but a little life update. Welcome back. It looks like naps are ending, catch up soon xx
