Welcome to my revised cleaning routine checklist page for Autumn 2021
I made my first cleaning routine checklist a few years ago and really stuck to it. We were both working full time then and were sharing household chores equally. However, my husband works shifts and sometimes we were home on alternate days. Rather than constantly asking the other one what needed doing, we devised a rota so it was easy to do a quick job when we had time.
Further on in this post, I want to share a little about how we keep a tidy home and share with you my FREE PDF of our cleaning routine that you can amend to suit your own needs.
Why a Cleaning Routine Checklist?
Sometimes housework seems so overwhelming. It all seems far too much. And it’s hard to do at the end of the working week. But we all like to live in a clean and calm space, right?!
By using my cleaning routine checklist, I’ve been able to break all the work into daily jobs, focussing on Monday to Friday but of course, this can be changed to suit your routine. This means that by the weekend, we generally only have just ‘outside’ jobs left to do such as car cleaning or gardening.
Without a plan, I usually go crazy in one room.
Then leave the rest to suffer. Before I know it, the house feels out of control and overwhelming.

I was using my old checklist at this point and have amended it a little since then. But my habits remain the same, so it’s definitely worth a read.

I’ve devised my routine into 3 pages;
- Daily
- Weekly
- Monthly
This just helps me visualise and tick off my tasks. By the end of the month, it means all of the more in-depth or challenging jobs should be mostly completed. I usually print off my cleaning rota and laminate it. I then use a marker to cross them off as I go.
I find this method to be the most effective. When I’ve worked in restaurants and cafes, they all run on a similar system. It means everyone knows what is expected of them and over the space of a few months, all the deep clean jobs are also completed.
