Planning a trip to Aberystwyth and wondering what to see and do? Whether you’re a history buff, nature lover, or just looking for a fun day out with the family, Aberystwyth has something for everyone. 1. Aberystwyth Arts Centre

Aberystwyth Arts Centre is one of the largest and busiest arts centres in Wales. It offers a range of performances, exhibitions, and workshops throughout the year. The centre includes a theatre, concert hall, cinema and several galleries, making it a cultural hub in the heart of Aberystwyth. Whether you’re interested in contemporary art, theatre, or music, the Arts Centre has something to offer.

It also has a delicious cafe open 7 days a week, offering local food with an ethical message. There is a lovely gift shop selling local crafts and interesting gifts for all ages.

2. Aberystwyth Castle

Built in the late 13th century, Aberystwyth Castle provides a glimpse into the town’s medieval past. Although now in ruins, the castle’s impressive remains are still worth a visit. The site offers stunning views of the coastline and is a great spot for a family picnic. Nearby there is a super park (locally known as Castle Park) and lots of green space for children to run around.

3. National Library of Wales

For those who love history and literature, the National Library of Wales is a must-visit. Located in Aberystwyth, this grand library houses an extensive collection of books, manuscripts, and archives. It’s a treasure trove of Welsh heritage and offers various exhibitions and events throughout the year. There is also a small playroom which is free to use for younger children and a small cafe for hot drinks, cakes and snacks,

4. Constitution Hill and Cliff Railway

Constitution Hill offers one of the best views in Aberystwyth. You can either hike to the top or take the Cliff Railway, the longest funicular electric cliff railway in Britain. At the summit, you’ll find a camera obscura and panoramic views of Cardigan Bay. Amongst these, you will also find some recently refurbished cliff-top attractions, including a soft play area, pool table and crazy golf course.

5. Aberystwyth Promenade

A stroll along Aberystwyth Promenade is a must. This picturesque seafront walk is perfect for a leisurely afternoon. Enjoy the sea breeze, grab an ice cream, and take in the beautiful views of the bay. Don’t forget to visit the Bandstand, a popular spot for live music and events.

6. Ceredigion Museum

A bit further afield, the Bwlch Nant yr Arian Forest Visitor Centre is well worth the trip of about 15 minutes in the car. The centre is known for its daily Red Kite feeding, where you can watch these majestic birds swoop down for their meal. There are also several walking and mountain biking trails, making it a perfect day out for outdoor enthusiasts.

10. The Moody Calf and Moody Cow

No visit to the area with young families is complete without stopping by The Moody Calf and Moody Cow, about 45 minutes south of Abersywtyth. These local farm shops and cafes offer delicious homemade food and a range of local produce. It’s a great place to relax and enjoy some fresh, locally-sourced meals after a day of sightseeing. The Moody Calf play barn is perfect for a rainy day to let children let off steam. If you’re camping, try one of their hot tub pitches for a relaxing stay.
