What Mummy Makes : My Top 5 Must try Recipes

What Mummy Makes Recipe Review

You’ve bought the book that everyone is raving about (and rightly so)
But where do you start?
Let me help you
I’ve listed my ‘Top 5’ in the book. That’s not to say the rest are rubbish because they’re not, I just think if you’re in the midst of weaning and want to get a real feel for the variety of the book, these are my regular go to’s and ones I have made lots of times. Read on to see if your favorite is featured. If you haven’t bought the book yet, ‘What Mummy Makes’ is a staple and here’s why…

1. Courgette Puff Pinwheels (p145)

I would probably say these come up the most when I’ve seen any discussion on BLW (Baby Led Weaning) facebook groups. They are super simple and really delicious. I love the version written in this book but have also seen brilliant sweet versions knocking around too.

2. Blueberry Muffins (p37)

These are a real hit in our house and go within about a day of making them (even though it very helpfully says you can freeze for the future) They’re a little bit messy and crumbly, but that doesn’t matter to us when they taste this good. If you enjoy these and fancy some other baking ideas, my Best Banana Cake recipe is a real winner in our house.

3. Salmon Fish Cakes (p143)

I’m not going to lie, these all went in one meal and were wonderful. One thing I would say with the book is that the quantities are sometimes a little off and my friends have mentioned the same. I would say this makes about 4 fishcakes. We also used tinned salmon and tuna, and replaced most of the regular potato with sweet potato which made them really delicious

4. Peanut Butter and Banana Flapjacks (p166)

These are really yummy and a great snack for the whole family. We were quite nervous to try Charlotte on peanut butter but once we did, we went straight for this recipe. We didn’t do the chocolate drizzle, as I don’t think we had any in at the time.

5. Cauliflower Cheese Gnocchi Bake (p118)

I think this might be Charlotte’s favorite of them all. It even went down well with my husband who doesn’t like cauliflower cheese – if that isn’t a testament, I don’t know what is. We added some frozen veg to ours and a bit of bacon, but you really don’t need to as we’ve made it without too, and its simply delicious.

I’m sure as soon as I publish this I’ll be so cross that I’ve not featured one, because I haven’t found one I didn’t like yet. I would buy this book even if you don’t have children because the recipes are so simple and yummy. Let me know what your favourites are!
